Why Hire “State Certified Electricians?” California’s State Certification Program At-A-Glance
For two consecutive years, Contractors, Electricians, and Legal Professionals watched as the State of California deliberated over the deadline of installing the Giant Sign that sits over the Electrical Industry—a sign that reads, “Caution: California-State-Certified Electricians Only.” On January 1, 2006, contractors, customers and electricians alike kept a careful watch on one another to see who went to work, and who did not. The Rules of the Game became even more clear:
Effective January 1, 2006, the only persons who may perform work as general electricians, residential electricians, or fire/life safety technicians for contractors licensed as Class C-10 electrical contractors and make electrical connections over 100 volt-amperes are those who have been certified by the State of California or, are an apprentice registered in an approved electrical apprenticeship program or a worker who has registered as an electrical trainee.
Clear legal penalties, such as Business and Professions Code §17200, are already set up, waiting for any C-10 Contractor who puts uncertified electricians to work in California.
Electricians can protect themselves by immediately signing up for the California State Exam. Customers can protect themselves by asking their electrical contractors if they use State-Certified Electricians. |
